Ovid MEDLINE Searchers

January 30, 2014 at 3:06 pm

For those of you who are Ovid MEDLINE searchers, the Library is making a change to the default database. Currently, when you select Ovid MEDLINE from the library’s home page, it opens to the default database Ovid MEDLINE(R) 1946 to January Week 1 2014. Articles have to be completely indexed by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to be in this database which makes every article in the database searchable by MeSH subject headings.
However, since articles are now more readily available online, NLM adds in-process and non-indexed content  daily so that users can find the most recently published literature on their topics.

The Library wants to make sure you have access to that literature as well, so effective February 3, 2014, the default database for Ovid MEDLINE will be Ovid MEDLINE(R) In-Process & Other Non-Indexed Citations and Ovid MEDLINE(R).

With the change to the default database MeSH headings will not have been assigned to the in-process and non-indexed citations. You will need to search by both textwords and MeSH to capture all references. Also the only limit that will work is the English language limit. If you have any questions about this change, please contact Ann Farrell.
