Structured Abstracts in MEDLINE: Newly Identified and Mapped Labels Available

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has updated its list of structured abstract labels. This updated list, along with the NLM-assigned broader category mappings, can be downloaded for free from the Structured Abstracts resource page which also provides NLM guidelines and other background information to assist licensees or researchers.

Apply to Attend the Winter 2014 Online Class “Fundamentals of Bioinformatics and Searching”

This course is offered online (asynchronous) from February 10 – March 21, 2014. The course format includes video lectures, readings, a molecular vocabulary exercise, an NCBI discovery exercise, and other hands-on exercises. The instructor is Diane Rein, Ph.D., MLS, Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology Liaison from the Health Science Library, University at Buffalo.

NLM Releases Digitized Collection of Its Publications and Productions

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is pleased to announce a new addition to its Digital Collections: over 500 NLM publications and productions dating from the 1860s to the 1990s.

NLM, in Cooperation with National Museum of American History, Launches “From DNA to Beer: Harnessing Nature in Medicine and Industry”

The National Library of Medicine (NLM), in cooperation with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, launches a special display in the History of Medicine Division Reading Room, a traveling banner exhibition made available free of charge to cultural institutions across the country, and an online adaptation of From DNA to Beer: Harnessing Nature in Medicine and Industry. From DNA to Beer explores some of the processes, problems, and potentials inherent in technologies that use life.

DIRLINE Ends Its 30 Year Run

Due to a changing technical and budgetary environment, the Division of Specialized Information Services (SIS) is no longer adding, updating or maintaining records in DIRLINE.

Updates to PMC Archive and Table of Contents Pages: Embargoed Articles Now Listed

The display of the journal archive pages in PubMed Central (PMC) for full participation journals was updated to include links to all issues in PMC, even if all of the articles in the issue are under embargo. Table of contents (TOC) pages are also now available for each issue that is in PMC, even if all articles are embargoed.
